Network Runtime Installation FAQ
WARNING: We strongly suggest you use the services of a qualified network
engineer to install Novell/Btrieve!
Use the free version of Novell Btrieve supplied on Novell installation CD's or download
from the Novell website.
Btrieve Installation Notes
1. Setup and configure BSERVER on the main server.
2. On each workstation setup a windows shortcut that runs a batch file, (eg "STARTUP.BAT"),
containing BREQUEST and FLRTBTRV, (example supplied).
3. If necessary capture and redirect the printed output as required. Flowmaster uses the
Printer Bios calls for printed output and normally all printout goes to printer 1. However
the user can change this and say direct invoices to printer 2 etc. Flowmaster allows up to 255
printers so you may have to advise the user that Windows/Dos/Novell can only handle 3 or 4!
4. The BSERVER "Page Size" must be at least 4096.
5. Download and install any Btrieve fixes for this version from the Novell website.
Converting Flowmaster Databases to Btrieve
1. Backup your existing system!
2. Setup a \STDBO directory on your chosen network logical drive.
3. Copy the contents of the existing Flowmaster Application from the local drive \STDBO.
4. Install FLRTBTRV.EXE and FLUTBRG.exe in \STDBO on the network logical drive.
5. Run FLUTBTRG, this converts all existing Flowmaster databases to Btrieve (.BTR) files.
6. Setup the STARTUP.BAT file mentioned above, (if you haven't already done so).
7. We normally copy BREQUEST.EXE into this directory.
8. You can delete the old Flowmaster database files, (*.DBA) and the old runtime
FLRTIMS.EXE.
9. You may need to set the permission/file attributes to allow read/write, (not normally
required).
10. Fire-up Btrieve on the server and it should be all systems go!
